Concrete Slabs

Concrete Slabs from a crew that shows up

Every building project eventually comes down to the slab. Whether you are putting up a metal shop on acreage in Maury County, a detached garage, a pole barn, a home addition or a big outbuilding, the slab has to be flat, square, strong enough for what sits on it and ready for the builder who comes next. A slab poured out of level or out of square causes trouble for every trade after it, and a slab poured on soft clay with no plan for water can crack long before the building gets old.

We form, reinforce, pour and finish slabs of every size for homeowners, builders and businesses. That includes monolithic slabs with thickened edges poured in one shot, slab-on-grade foundations, and floors for shops and pole barns. Our job photos show the crew bull-floating big slabs and shop pads and a mixer truck pouring a slab beside a house. We dig and form footings with an excavator on site, set vapor barrier and steel, place anchor bolts where the builder needs them, and finish the surface to suit the use.

Questions

Concrete Slabs FAQs

How do you handle clay and rock when pouring a slab here?

We plan for both. Middle Tennessee clay swells and shrinks with moisture, so we strip soft soil, build up a compacted stone base and dig footings down to firm ground. Limestone often sits close to the surface here, and when we hit it we work around or through it instead of pouring over a thin layer of loose fill on top of rock.

How much does a concrete slab cost?

It comes down to size, site prep, footing depth, reinforcement and finish. A slab on a flat lot that is ready to go costs less than one on a slope that needs fill, rock work or a stepped footing. We price each slab from a site visit and put the quote in writing at no charge.

Do I need a permit for a shop or garage slab?

Usually yes, when the slab is the foundation for a building. Spring Hill, Franklin, Columbia, Williamson County and Maury County each have their own requirements, and some want a footing inspection before the pour. We pull the permit, schedule the inspections and keep you posted so the job does not stall.

What is a monolithic slab?

A monolithic slab is a floor and its perimeter footing poured at the same time as one piece. It is faster than pouring footings and the floor separately, and it works well for garages, shops and many outbuildings. For sloped lots, taller walls or heavy loads, we may recommend separate footings or a stem wall instead.

Can you have the slab ready for my building kit or framer?

Yes. Send us your plans or the kit supplier's foundation drawing and we set the slab size, anchor bolt layout and any thickened areas to match. A slab that is square and level makes every wall and door that sits on it go in easier.
