Excavation & Site Prep

Excavation & Site Prep from a crew that shows up

Every good concrete job starts with good dirt work. If the ground is not dug to the right depth, compacted and graded to drain, even the best concrete will crack, settle or hold water. Middle Tennessee sites have their own challenges: sticky clay that turns to mud after a spring storm, limestone close to the surface, rolling lots that need cutting and filling, and the occasional sinkhole or soft spot. You want a crew that reads the site and plans for all of that before the first bucket of dirt comes out.

We do our own excavation and site prep, so the same crew that pours your concrete gets the ground ready for it. We dig footings and foundations with our excavator, cut and fill building pads, grade driveways and yards so water runs away from the house, and spread and compact the gravel base. Our job photos show footings dug and formed with an excavator on site and a new driveway curving across an open field. We work new subdivision lots and rural acreage across Williamson and Maury counties, with twenty-plus years in concrete, licensed and insured.

How it works

How an excavation job works

  1. 1

    Free on-site quote

We walk the site and look at slope, soil, access and where the water goes. Customers mention how quick and prompt our estimates are.

  2. 2

    Locates and layout

We call Tennessee 811 to get buried utilities marked, then stake out the work area and grades from your plans.

  3. 3

    Dig, cut and fill

We excavate, move dirt where the grade needs it, and compact fill in layers so it does not settle later.

  4. 4

    Base, grade and clean up

We place the gravel base, fine-grade for drainage, haul off extra dirt and leave the site ready for concrete.

Questions

Excavation & Site Prep FAQs

What makes excavation in Middle Tennessee different?

Clay and rock. Our clay holds water and turns to mud after heavy rain, so we time digs around the weather and never pour on soft, wet ground. Limestone often turns up shallow and some areas have sinkholes, so we watch for both and adjust before any concrete goes in.

How much does excavation and site prep cost?

It depends on how much dirt moves, whether it stays on site or gets hauled off, how much gravel base the job needs, equipment access and whether we hit rock. Grading a yard is a very different job from cutting a hillside house pad. We give you a free quote after walking the site.

How long does site prep take?

A patio or driveway base can be quick, while house pads and hillside cuts take longer. Rain is the big variable, because wet clay has to dry out before it will compact. We give you a realistic schedule up front, and customers mention how fast we get started.

Do you only dig for your own concrete jobs?

Most of our dirt work is prep for the concrete we pour, which keeps one crew responsible for the whole job. We also take on grading, drainage and pad work on its own for homeowners and builders.

Can you fix a yard that holds water?

Usually, yes. Most standing water comes down to grade, so we reshape the yard to slope away from the house and give the water a path out with a swale or drain pipe. If you are pouring new concrete, fixing the grade first is the best time to do it.
