Block Walls
Block Walls from a crew that shows up
You need a wall that is strong, square and built to last, whether that is a crawl space foundation, a wall to hold back a slope, a screen wall around the trash cans or the walls of a block shop. Concrete block, also called CMU or what most folks still call cinder block, handles all of that well as long as the footing under it is right and the cores are reinforced. Middle Tennessee clay that swells and shrinks, plus heavy spring rain, is hard on any wall, so a block wall needs steel, grout and a plan for water.
We build block walls from the footing up with our own crew. We dig and pour a reinforced footing, lay the block plumb and level, set rebar and grout the cores where the wall carries load or holds back soil, then finish it with a cap or a smooth parge coat. Our job photos show footings dug and formed on site and a poured stem wall, the same base every block wall starts on. We take on residential and commercial block work, with twenty-plus years in concrete, licensed and insured.

Questions
Block Walls FAQs
Will a block wall crack in our clay soil?
Not if the footing and steel are right. Middle Tennessee clay swells when it is wet and shrinks in dry spells, and winter freeze-thaw works on any wall. A reinforced footing on firm soil, rebar and grout in the cores, and drainage behind any wall that holds back dirt are what keep a block wall straight.
What does a block wall cost?
Length, height, whether it holds back soil, how much steel and grout it needs and the finish you pick all play in. Digging conditions matter too, especially if we hit rock. We give you a free quote on site.
How long does a block wall take to build?
A short garden wall goes quickly, while foundation and retaining walls take longer because of inspections and the time the footing and grout need to set before backfill. We lay out the schedule when we quote. Customers mention that we start fast and finish on time.
Block wall or poured concrete wall?
Block is a great fit for most foundation, garden and shop walls and is easy to build in tight spots. Poured walls are stronger for tall retaining walls and basement walls under heavy load. We build both, so we recommend whichever suits the job.
Can you build a block wall that fits my HOA rules?
Yes. We build to the height, setback and finish your HOA or city allows, whether that is a smooth parge coat, a cap or a clean block face. Send us the guidelines and we will build to them.
