Concrete Retaining Walls
Concrete Retaining Walls from a crew that shows up
Maybe your yard slopes too hard to use, a hillside keeps washing onto the driveway, or an old crosstie wall is rotting and starting to lean. A retaining wall fixes that, but only if it is built for what it holds back. Middle Tennessee clay gets heavy and pushes hard when it is soaked, and heavy spring rain loads up the soil behind a wall fast. Walls that lean or crack usually have no real footing, no drainage behind them, or both. A good wall gives you flat, usable ground and keeps the hill where it belongs.
We build poured concrete retaining walls and reinforced concrete block walls with our own crew and equipment. We excavate, pour a footing with steel that ties into the wall, build the wall, then place drain rock and perforated pipe behind it so water gets out instead of building up. We also tear out old timber and crosstie walls and replace them with concrete. Our job photos include footings dug and formed with an excavator and a poured stem wall, the same work that goes under every wall we build. Twenty-plus years in concrete, licensed and insured.

What's included
Our concrete retaining walls services
- 01
Poured concrete retaining walls
Formed and poured walls with steel through the footing and wall, for tall cuts, driveway edges and spots that need the most strength.
- 02
Reinforced block retaining walls
Concrete block walls on a poured footing, with rebar and grout in the cores and a clean cap on top.
- 03
Drainage behind the wall
Drain rock, filter fabric and perforated pipe or weep holes, so rain water drains out instead of pushing on the wall.
- 04
Crosstie and timber wall replacement
We remove rotting railroad tie and treated lumber walls, haul them off and replace them with concrete that will not rot.
- 05
Driveway and patio walls
Walls that cut a level spot into a slope for a driveway, parking pad or patio, with steps built in where you need them.
- 06
Backfill and grading
We backfill in layers, compact as we go and grade the top so water runs away from the wall and the house.

Concrete Retaining Walls: what it can look like
How it works
How a retaining wall job works
- 1
Free on-site quote
We look at the slope, the soil, where the water goes and what the wall needs to hold. Customers mention how quick and prompt our estimates are.
- 2
Wall design and permits
We pick the wall type and drainage for your site. Taller walls often need an engineered design and a permit, and we help line that up.
- 3
Excavate and pour the footing
We dig to firm soil, set the steel and pour a footing that locks the wall in place.
- 4
Build, drain and backfill
We build the wall, set drain rock and pipe behind it, backfill in layers and clean up the site.

Questions
Concrete Retaining Walls FAQs
Why do retaining walls fail in Middle Tennessee?
Water and clay. Our clay holds water after heavy spring rain and gets heavy, and a wall without drainage takes all of that pressure until it leans or cracks, with winter freeze-thaw adding to it. We build every wall with drain rock and pipe or weep holes behind it and a footing that reaches firm soil.
How much does a retaining wall cost?
Height and length drive it, along with the wall type, how much digging and hauling the site needs, and how easy it is to get equipment in. A tall poured wall at the bottom of a steep yard is a very different job from a short garden wall. We give a free quote after seeing the slope.
Do I need a permit for a retaining wall?
Often, depending on the height and what the wall holds up, like a driveway or a house. Rules differ between Spring Hill, Franklin, Columbia and the counties, and taller walls usually need an engineer's design. We check what your site needs and help with the paperwork.
Poured concrete or block: which is better?
Both work when they are built right. Poured walls are the strongest choice for tall walls and tight spots near driveways or foundations, and reinforced block works well for most yard walls with a clean, finished look. We build both, so we recommend whichever fits your site.
Can you fix my leaning retaining wall?
If it is leaning badly, rebuilding is usually the honest answer, because the footing or the drainage was the problem in the first place. We take the old wall out, haul it off and build a new one with a proper footing and drainage.
