Concrete Footings

Concrete Footings from a crew that shows up

Everything you build sits on its footings. Get them wrong and it shows up years later as a cracked wall, a door that sticks or a deck post that sinks. Middle Tennessee makes footings matter more than most places, with clay that swells when it is wet and shrinks in a dry August, limestone that can turn up a couple of feet down, and the odd soft spot over a sinkhole. Whether you are adding a room, building a garage or shop, or setting deck posts, the footing has to reach firm soil and sit below the frost line.

We handle footings start to finish with our own crew and equipment. We dig the trenches or holes with an excavator, check the bottom for soft clay or rock, set forms and rebar to the plans, call for the inspection and pour. Our own job photos show exactly this kind of work: footings dug and formed on site, then a poured stem wall built on top. With twenty-plus years in concrete, licensed and insured, we know what city and county inspectors in Spring Hill, Franklin and Columbia look for before they sign off.

How it works

How a footing job works

  1. 1

    Free on-site quote

We walk the site, look over your plans or sketch, and talk through soil, slope and access. Customers mention how quick and prompt our estimates are.

  2. 2

    Layout, permit and locates

We lay out the footing lines, help line up the permit, and get buried utilities marked before we dig.

  3. 3

    Dig, form and set steel

We dig to firm soil below the frost line, form where needed and place rebar to the plans. Then the inspector checks it.

  4. 4

    Pour and clean up

Once the footing passes inspection we pour, strike it level and clean up so the next stage can start.

Questions

Concrete Footings FAQs

How deep do footings need to be in Middle Tennessee?

Deep enough to get below the frost line and onto firm soil, and the local code sets the minimum. In our clay, depth is only half the job, because the bottom has to be solid undisturbed soil, not soft fill or wet mud. If we hit limestone first, rock often makes a good base, and we confirm it with you and the inspector before we pour.

How much do concrete footings cost?

It depends on how long and how big the footing is, how much steel the plans call for, how easy the ground is to dig and whether we run into rock. Access for the excavator and the concrete truck matters too. We give you a free quote after seeing the site, so you are working from a real number instead of a guess.

Do I need a permit and inspection for footings?

For a house, addition, garage or most decks, yes. Spring Hill, Franklin, Columbia and Williamson and Maury counties all want footings inspected before concrete goes in. We schedule the pour around that inspection, and customers mention how responsive we are through the permit and scheduling process.

What is the difference between a footing and a foundation?

The footing is the wide base at the bottom that spreads the weight into the soil. The foundation is the whole system, including the walls or slab that sit on the footing. We pour both, and on many projects the footing and the stem wall or slab are one job.

Can you pour footings for a deck or addition my builder is framing?

Yes. We work for homeowners directly and for builders and framers who need footings in and inspected on schedule. Tell us when framing needs to start and we plan the dig and pour around it.
