Concrete Sidewalks & Walkways

Concrete Sidewalks & Walkways from a crew that shows up

Your front walk is the first thing guests step on and the thing you sweep, salt and trip over most. Around Spring Hill and Franklin we see the same problems again and again: a narrow builder walkway too tight for two people, sections that heaved or sank and left a lip at the joint, paths that hold water against the front steps, and side yards worn to mud between the driveway and the backyard. A new walkway fixes all of that and makes the front of the house look finished.

We pour sidewalks and walkways of every shape, straight or curved, plain broom finish or stamped. Our work includes a stamped walkway that ends in an octagon and another that runs along a brick wall. We break out old concrete, compact a base, set forms and steel, and slope each walk so rain runs off instead of across. When the public sidewalk in front of your house needs replacing, we handle that section and the right-of-way permit too.

Questions

Concrete Sidewalks & Walkways FAQs

Why did our sidewalk heave and leave a trip hazard?

Usually because the soil under it moved. Middle Tennessee clay swells when it is wet and shrinks when it dries, tree roots push slabs up, and freeze-thaw cycles open small gaps a little more every winter. We replace heaved sections on a compacted stone base so the new walk stays flush, and when a sunken section is still sound we can lift it instead of replacing it.

What does a new walkway cost?

It depends on length, width, whether old concrete has to come out, and plain versus stamped. A short, straight broom-finish walk costs less than a long curved stamped path with a landing. We measure on site and give you a written quote for free.

Who fixes the sidewalk in front of my house, and do I need a permit?

In many towns and subdivisions the homeowner is responsible for the public sidewalk along their lot, though the rules differ by city and HOA. Work in the right-of-way generally needs a city permit. We check what applies in Spring Hill, Franklin, Columbia or your town and pull the permit for you.

How wide should a front walkway be?

Wide enough for two people to walk side by side, which is wider than most builder walks. We mark a couple of widths on the ground so you can see the difference before we pour. A wider walk also sits better in proportion with a two-story house.

Can you match a new walkway to our existing stamped patio?

We can get close. We match the pattern, pick a color that blends with the existing slab, and seal both so the sheen matches. Older concrete has weathered, so a perfect match is not always possible, and we tell you up front how close we expect to get.
