Excavation & Site Prep · Columbia

Excavation & Site Prep for Columbia properties

Columbia homeowners from Pop Geers Park and Betty Lee Park to the edge of town call us for footing digs, house and shop pads, grading and drainage, and every job starts with a free quote.

In the older neighborhoods here, a lot of the work is replacing original driveways, walks and patios that have cracked, heaved or sunk, often between mature trees and in tight spaces.

A Franklin customer wrote about their driveway grading: “Very nicely done. He was able to do my job the day after I talked to him He went the extra mile to make sure I was happy with his work”

Maury County

Excavation & Site Prep around Columbia

We work all over Columbia — near Pop Geers Park, Betty Lee Park and Second Knob and out by Allen Branch — and throughout Maury County.

Columbia is the Maury County seat, on the Duck River. Columbia is about 11 miles southwest of Spring Hill, well inside our 30-mile service area.

Concrete in Middle Tennessee has to handle clay soil that swells when it's wet and shrinks in a dry August, limestone that's often only a few feet down, freeze-thaw winter nights and heavy spring rain. A slab holds up when it sits on a compacted stone base, has steel where it needs it, sheds water away from the house and has joints cut where cracks are meant to go.

How it works

How your Columbia excavation job works

  1. 1

    Free on-site quote

We walk the site and look at slope, soil, access and where the water goes. Customers mention how quick and prompt our estimates are.

  2. 2

    Locates and layout

We call Tennessee 811 to get buried utilities marked, then stake out the work area and grades from your plans.

  3. 3

    Dig, cut and fill

We excavate, move dirt where the grade needs it, and compact fill in layers so it does not settle later.

  4. 4

    Base, grade and clean up

We place the gravel base, fine-grade for drainage, haul off extra dirt and leave the site ready for concrete.

Questions

Excavation & Site Prep in Columbia: FAQs

Do you do excavation & site prep in Columbia, TN?

Yes. Columbia is about 11 miles southwest of Spring Hill, well inside our 30-mile service area. We handle footing digs, house and shop pads, grading and drainage there, and the quote is free.

Do I need a permit for excavation & site prep in Columbia?

It depends on the project. When one is needed, we pull the permit from the City of Columbia's building department and build to whatever the permit and inspection require.

Do you only dig for your own concrete jobs?

Most of our dirt work is prep for the concrete we pour, which keeps one crew responsible for the whole job. We also take on grading, drainage and pad work on its own for homeowners and builders.

Can you fix a yard that holds water?

Usually, yes. Most standing water comes down to grade, so we reshape the yard to slope away from the house and give the water a path out with a swale or drain pipe. If you are pouring new concrete, fixing the grade first is the best time to do it.

What makes excavation in Middle Tennessee different?

Clay and rock. Our clay holds water and turns to mud after heavy rain, so we time digs around the weather and never pour on soft, wet ground. Limestone often turns up shallow and some areas have sinkholes, so we watch for both and adjust before any concrete goes in.

How much does excavation and site prep cost?

It depends on how much dirt moves, whether it stays on site or gets hauled off, how much gravel base the job needs, equipment access and whether we hit rock. Grading a yard is a very different job from cutting a hillside house pad. We give you a free quote after walking the site.
